Art After School
with Ms. Anne-Marie Moore 		Art After School provides an opportunity for students who love to create. The activities usually require materials and processes that are more detailed than those in the regular art class. We try to develop each student's individual talent and provide an hour of creativity, enrichment and fun! [Info]
Culinary Delights
with HaMorah Irene Blechner		 Students will have fun measuring, mixing, creating, baking, cooking and enjoying each other’s company. It’s fun, wholesome and happy. In the process, they develop valuable hand and eye coordination skills and refine their fine motor skills. They also practice their reading and arithmetic! Best of all, cooking helps instill confidence as students see, taste, and share the results of their efforts with their friends. [Info]
Holiday Heirloom Medley
with Mrs. Sima Rynderman 		Enhance and personalize your celebration of the Jewish holidays—Shabbat, Simchat Torah, Sukkot, Chanukah, Purim, and Pesach—with a unique, custom-made heirloom made for each specific holiday. We will be using felt and fabric, wallpaper, glass beads, Portland cement and copper pipes. Projects will charm, endure and endear the occasion from year to year. [Info]
Jewels and Gems
with Mrs. Sima Rynderman 		Design, create and enjoy dazzling jewelry for your personal adornment or to present as a gift to a loved one. Assemble a unique ocular pendant, a slinky beaded bracelet in your favorite colors and, time permitting, a sparkling seed bead ring. [Info]
Pottery
with Mrs. Selma Miller 		Pottery courses are designed to teach basic clay hand-building techniques and inspire students to use these techniques to create interesting and imaginative projects, focusing on Judaica, such as Kiddush cups. Instruction is individualized for children of all levels of experience and ability. All pieces will be fired and select pieces will be glazed. [Info]
Sewing
with Mrs. Miriam Sokoloff 		Learn the basics of hand sewing. We will begin by sewing two small projects, and then cut out and sew a chef’s apron. Students will learn to sew on buttons and hem clothing, use an iron, as well as how to cut out and follow a commercial sewing pattern. [Info]
Woodworking
with Mr. Peter Lipsitt 		We start with group projects to provide the fundamentals. Safety comes first: learning to use hand saws, hammer and nails, and hand drills without incident. We teach sawing, gluing, sandpapering, and nailing, making boxes and simple objects. Students will learn to make furniture, toys, or knock-hockey games, while learning basic use of hand tools. [Info]

Chess
with Eduard Duchovny 		Learn one of the oldest and greatest games. Lessons will be tailored to individual needs and will provide theoretical explanation as well as actual practice. Students will gain knowledge with the help of a workbook, demo board and other visual aids. Some prior knowledge of the game is an advantage. [Info]
Mad Science In this program, we take an exciting look at the science behind aerodynamics and the properties of air. We take a tour on the electron freeway in the world of circuit electricity; and experience some awesome forces. We’ll also learn about water waves and the environment; explore the scientific secrets behind some famous magic tricks; investigate the fundamental principles of flight; and discover the strengths of triangles, cylinders and arches and how these shapes make for sturdy homes and skyscrapers. Math Warriors
with Prof. Ari Trachtenberg		 Some of the most beautiful ideas in math are typically taught in college, although they are actually accessible to mathematically brave students in grades 3-6. For example, students will see that, without a doubt, there are two people in the world with exactly the same numbers of hairs on their head. Time permitting, we will explore some of these ideas from the fields of graph theory, number theory, combinatorics, logic, and cryptography. To participate, students must understand basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division). [Info]
Outdoor Explorers
offered by PUDDLESTOMPERS		 Come and explore nature after school! Learn how plants grow and look for rainbows after April showers. Search for signs of animals and their food sources. Investigate birds building their new nests. Discover worms and other exciting life in the soil. We will use hands-on exploration activities, active movement and play, crafts, and stories to investigate the natural world around us. We will be outside and moving as we explore. Come discover the wonders of new life in the Spring with us. [Info]

Mishmar
with HaMorah Irene Blechner, Rabbi Yaakov Beker, Rabbi Dovid Reisman, Rabbi David Saltzman 		Torah Learning for its own sake (Lishma) is extremely important in our tradition. We are delighted to bring you this enrichment.
Grades K-2: Children will explore different Jewish concepts and ideals through song, art and play.
Grades 3-7: Depending on the grade, students will study aspects of Halacha or portions of Mishna or Tanach. 		[Info]

The Instrumental Music Program
with Mrs. Elana Nouriel 		Maimonides After School Program offers group lessons for string, brass, woodwind and percussion for beginners and private lessons for more advanced students. Because the music program is a continuous program, a September-June commitment is required. New students may not join group classes mid-year. However, new private students will be accepted.

The music program also offers an orchestra open to ALL elementary and middle-school students who are able to read music, regardless of where they study privately. Although this is primarily a teaching orchestra, we also perform several times a year. New students may join at any time (tuition will be pro-rated).

The Maimonides Elementary Orchestra
with Mrs. Elana Nouriel 		Join the orchestra and increase your musicianship! Listen to others, while following your own part! Play challenging music, both Judaic and classical. Play expressively as a group by following a conductor. Perform several times a year. Students must be able to read music and must be studying with a private teacher. New orchestra members may join at any time, regardless of where they study privately. [Info]
The Maimonides Middle School Ensemble
with Mrs. Elana Nouriel 		Our newest venture! Students in Grades 6-8 are invited to come and make music together. Increase your musicianship, playing more challenging music together at a higher level. Play both Judaic and classical music and perform several times thoughout the year, including at the middle school recital. [Info]
Violin, Viola, Cello Students are taught a modified Suzuki approach. Although not necessary, parents are always welcome and encouraged to attend. Regular and consistent practice is expected.
Woodwind, Brass, & Percussion
with Mrs. Elana Nouriel 		This class includes all instruments within a standard elementary band: flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and drum. Students will learn how to read music and play their chosen instrument. Students will also learn to rehearse and perform as part of an ensemble. Regular and consistent practice is expected. Parents are welcome to attend classes. [Info]
Guitar Workshop
with Mr. Jerome Mouffe 		Do you want to play the guitar? This course will introduce the rudiments of playing the guitar. We will work on technique, musicianship, and music theory. The objective of this course will be to encourage children to read and perform works written for the guitar independently. [Info]
Melodies & Monologues
with Ms. Melody Michaelson 		Learn to perform your favorite songs and monologues with confidence, poise and pizzazz! Students will prepare songs or monologues of their choosing to be performed in our final show. Classes will focus on breathing, pitch, ear-training and other vocal and public speaking techniques. Students of all musical and dramatic backgrounds are welcome! [Info]
Melody’s Broadway Kids
with Ms. Melody Michaelson 		Come and join Melody’s Broadway Kids on all of our thrilling adventures as we sing, dance, and act our way through numerous journeys. Every girl and every boy will have a starring role in our final performance at the semester’s end. Classes will include concentration, memory, eye contact, improvisation, public speaking, singing, dancing, and acting games as well as rehearsals for our final performance. [Info]

Guitar Private lessons encouraging the mastery of guitar technique and guitar repertoire are available. Beginners are welcome. [Info]
Piano This course is designed for beginner students. It is the instructor’s belief that students should develop a love of piano while learning to play. Along with explaining musical theory, note-reading and technique in a manner designed to delight the novice, Mrs. Michaelson will combine classical music training with the teaching of special songs in Hebrew and English. [Info]
Violin, Viola, Cello Private lessons are $32 per lesson. Please contact Elana Nouriel at (508) 655-3448 to set up a convenient time and day. A supply fee of $25 is required. The total amount will be determined by the number of lessons in the semester. Students must register using the attached registration form at the back of this booklet. A registration fee is required.

Advanced Bodygames
with Mrs. Judy Diamond		 Advanced Bodygames is a movement program for Grades K-2. Based on the philosophy that self-confidence is built on feelings of competence and respect for others, Bodygames is fun and active. It develops qualities such as choices, decision-making, observation, imitation, control cooperation, imagination/creativity and more… Creative drama is also an important element where children get TO BE the story instead of just listening to one. [Info]
All Sports
with Dr. Larry Levine 		Students taking this class will participate in soccer, kickball, dodgeball, whiffleball, baseball, touch football, and lots more! Individual sports offered will depend on the season. The class will focus on beginning skills through full game participation. Students will learn important team-playing skills, as well as cooperation and respect. [Info]
Creative Gym for Girls
with Mr. Ernie D’Agnelli (Mr. D.)		 Girls in Grades 3-7 will have the opportunity to enjoy a real workout after school and work off some of that energy they’ve been building up all day while sitting at their desks. There are many wonderful advantages for a girl to participate in sports, such as developing a positive and healthy body and self-image, and developing self-confidence in all areas of her life. [Info]
Fencing
with Mr. Ray Cote 		Learn the fundamentals of modern foil fencing! This class combines fencing instruction with a touch of history, life skills, and sportsmanship. Students learn the origins of swordsmanship, the benefits of practice and precision, and the value of honor and fair play while getting fit and having fun. [Info]
Hockey
with Mr. Ernie D’Agnelli (Mr. D.) 		Third through seventh graders will have an opportunity to enjoy a real workout after school. Students will work on individual skill development as well as how to work together on a team. Come and join us for a great workout and lots of fun! [Info]
Jazz Dance Class
with The Dance Academy of Siagel Productions		 Jazz dance includes isolations, stretches, footwork, and weight changes. The entire body gets a workout as students focus on center control, strong movements, and technicality. Choreographed combinations expose each dancer to traditional, contemporary, and theatrical jazz styles. [Info]
Karate
with Dr. Sam Zisblatt 		Come and learn the martial arts! Through karate training, students will learn concentration, patience, control and how to follow instructions, as well as gaining physical strength and coordination. [Info]
Tennis
with Dr. Larry Levine 		This course offers an introduction to beginning tennis skills. Lessons aim to provide an explanation of the game, scoring and court area. Students will practice volleying, fronthand, backhand and serving. Instruction will also be provided for returning students, working on and refining their skills. [Info]
