After the entire Grades 7-12 student body was called to Saval Auditorium, administrators, assisted by uniformed Brookline Police, announced reports of a "major incident" at the school expected next Monday. The officers then called forward seniors Sam Israel, Beth Japhet, Moshe Klausner, Tamar Kram, Raphy Rosen and Zach Weiner, who were introduced as Maccabiah team captains. The announcement was greeted with shouts and applause from more than 300 students. Less than an hour later, following initial team meetings, classrooms and hallways already were replete with green and purple t-shirts.

The students were assigned to one of two teams, each of which will compete in traditional Maccabiah categories, including song, banner and Dvrei Torah as well as team sports events. Each team will represent one of the fundamental Judaic principles of din (justice) and chesed (compassion), as taught by the school's revered founder, Rabbi Dr. Joseph B. Soloveitchik, zt"l. Another highlight will be a barbecue lunch, courtesy of Catering by Andrew. The idea for the event was inspired by Rachel Epstein '07.
