Volunteer Opportunities

Maimonides encourages every parent to become an active participant in the school community and the PTA. Below is a list of volunteer opportunities available. Remember the PTA needs your support to make these programs run successfully!

If you are interested in helping with any of the activities listed below, please contact one of our PTA co-presidents. You can reach Randy Bergel at randyb@campramahne.org or Risa Gewurz at rzgewurz@comcast.net. Please note that several events need chairpeople.

Volunteer Opportunities for Grades K-5
  • Book Fair: Children eagerly anticipate this popular event every year! Work with vendors to select books to be sold, and help children make ‘wish lists’ and select appropriate books. Handling the cash box and periodically organizing the bookcases are among other tasks associated with this event. The Book Fair generally occurs in October or November of each year.

  • Chesed: Help children carry out grade-specific chesed activities throughout the year.

  • Creative Arts Festival: Work together with teacher liaisons to create a special day for students in Grades K-12 to showcase their artistic interests and talents. Volunteers are needed to help organize and run the special programs and displays.

  • Display Cases Manager: Communicate with the kids directly! Help create and promote interactive games and enrichment programs using PTA’s new display cases. You will manage the usage of these display cases and coordinate with teachers.

  • End-of-Year Bash: Participate in our most fun event of the year by putting together a carnival for Grades K-5. Arrange food, amusements and volunteers.

  • Fall/Spring Hat Shows: Coordinate the participation of local vendors; assist with set-up; help run and take down the show. Flyers and posters will need to be distributed for this event as well.

  • Graphic Arts: Create and update flyers for PTA programs and events. This opportunity is great for a person with computer graphic skills.

  • Magazine Drive: Help distribute order packets to the students; collect and process the orders for each classroom; distribute prizes to children. The Magazine Drive occurs in the fall.

  • MaimoWear: Build school spirit and raise money for PTA by selling Maimonides branded clothing and items at different times throughout the year.

  • Rebate Fundraising: Research and develop Maimonides participation in nationally sponsored rebate programs designed for school fundraising, including Schoolpops, Target Stores, etc. This is a great opportunity for a parent with internet research skills.

  • Rosh Chodesh Pizza: Celebrate Rosh Chodesh each month by serving pizza to students in Grades K-5.

  • Sunday Soccer: Coordinate Spring Sunday Soccer program for Grades 2-5.

  • Teacher Appreciation: Organize or assist with activities in recognition of teachers, such as Teacher Appreciation Week, End-of-Year Luncheon, etc.
