Safety and security are paramount at Maimonides School as the new academic year gets underway.

“Safety is a major concern for us,” asserted Merv Alge, Maimonides Director of Operations, as he outlined this week’s Safety Week agenda for students in Kindergarten through Grade 12, as well as all faculty and staff. “We address all the aspects of the school’s safety policies and procedures.”

Three drills involving the entire school population are being conducted: fire evacuation, internal lockdown (in response to an intruder) and general evacuation, which in an actual emergency, would lead to Brookline High School around the corner.

Safety Week is also an opportunity to remind parents of the school’s student drop-off and pickup procedures, Mr. Alge added. The school nursing staff begins Safety Week certified in first aid and CPR, after completing a training review just prior to the start of school.
